DPS Shipment Percentage Decreasing During Peak Season

Each week, JPMO-HHGS provides a Weekly Activity Report (aka WAR report) to the Services and DPS TSP user group. One of the prominant statistics tracked in this WAR report is the percentage of shipments that are booked in DPS vs. TOPS. We have gone back and reviewed  the WAR reports since PPM was implemented in DPS, and have compiled this chart showing the percentages of shipments booked in DPS each week (note: No percentage was given for the week ending 5/28/10):

As you can see from the above chart, the percentages steadily increased until the week ending May 14th when it topped at 68% of shipments were booked in DPS. Since then the percentages have been trending lower. Last week, the DPS percentage was 55%, the lowest since the implementation of PPM.

Also interesting to note is the breakdown by Service, which is depicted in the following chart:

While all the Services trendlines follow the same basic pattern, there have been some differences. The Army and Coast Guard have the widest range between the lowest percentage week and the highest, while the Marine Corps and Navy have been much more consistent. Air Force has been in the middle ground, as far as changes between weeks.

The obvious explanation of these trends is that the peak season problems have caused the Services to reduce the number of shipments in DPS. However, there are a lot of factors that go into these statistics, so it is probably impossible to offer a direct correlation between the peak season concerns and a lower percentage of shipments in DPS. However, it is undoubtedly one of the factors coming into play, as evidenced by some of the recent messages issues by the Services. The key will be to watch these numbers to see if the shipments booked in DPS continues to decline,  hold steady, or return to their previous levels.
