Plasma TV Cartons

Last week SDDC released “Change 3 to DS08″ to add the verbiage for billing of the Corrugated Cartons for Flat Screen Televisions. The change provided the item code, billing guidelines and the applicable rate to bill for the cartons. While it was a welcomed release, there were a number of questions left unanswered by the change, in particular, when the Item Codes spreadsheet would be updated to allow for billing of this item since it contains the information needed to update our billing program and AccuBill for electronic billing.

Yesterday an “Interim Billing Solution for item 100V and 508G” was released on the What’s New section of SDDC’s site. The interim billing solution was implemented to allow all stakeholders time to update their system with the new item code information. This solution utilizes the miscellaneous item codes for billing of the rates as outlined in Change 3 to the DS08. Please note, that this interim solution does NOT apply for manual billings to DFAS, the actual item codes should be used at that time.

As we mentioned, there are still a number of unanswered questions surrounding the addition of these cartons as billing items. We will continue to keep you posted as we learn more on this topic.

  1. What I would like to know is where the govt researched to come up with the billable charge for the corrugated box for flat screen TV’s. I contacted our packing supplier and they sell Plasma TV Boxes for $125.00, but the govt will only reimburse us $65.00? How is that right? Do you know who to ask or how to dispute.

  2. It is our understanding that SDDC researched the cost of the cartons from several suppliers and determined their cost accordingly. In recent correspondence, HHGFAA and AMSA have been questioning the flat rate released by SDDC to make them aware of the costs that carriers incur to provide these cartons and perform the packing and unpacking of. We would recommend that you contact one of the Associations to learn more about the contact they have had with SDDC regarding this subject.
