September 10th is New DPS Implementation Date

During the recent TSP OT, Col. Carberry from JPMO-HHGS announced that the DPS system would go live on September 10th, 2008. This would be the date on which the 18 previously announced bases would start using DPS, although there was some uncertainty about how fully each base would implement the system. Col. Carberry stated that at least some of the bases would be allowed flexibility to choose how to implement, but that those decisions were yet to be made.

Col. Carberry also stated that once the 18 bases were using DPS, the move to full deployment world-wide would be done very soon. He would not release the date they have planned for worldwide deployment of DPS, but he stated it would “scare” the TSPs in attendance if he told us. Additionally, he stated the worldwide roll-out would be done very rapidly, either all at once or over a few weeks.

In his closing brief of the OT testing, Col. Carberry did state that the system would be ready on September 10th, but there was always the chance that an “external factor could affect that date.” He mentioned that the Services will have to support that date, and that a GOSC would be held in early September to ask for concurrence to move forward on the 10th.
