Fuel Surcharge Update

Since the implementation of the new fuel surcharge policy earlier this year, there has been ongoing discussion surrounding the applicable rate to be used on the delivery from destination SIT for international shipments with a pickup date of prior to April 1, 2007 that have delivered after the new policy went into effect.

During the discussions, the Industry has made recommendations to SDDC for resolution to this issue. SDDC recognizes the earlier recommendations to be “policy change” which is not a simple task. The latest suggestion was to provide an amendment to the policy that would allow for the affected international shipments to bill a 12% increase to the delivery out fuel surcharge rate, reflective of the increase that was implemented with the I-18 solicitation, using a miscellaneous item code. SDDC has received the suggestion and is reviewing the possibility of this type of resolution.

As always, we will continue to provide you updates as we receive them regarding this issue.
