Record Breaking Year for Relay for Life!

The 11th Annual Relay for Life Event took place here in Norfolk on June 2-3, 2006. The Relay for Life is an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society that The Day Companies strongly supports every year. This is due partly to the fact that the very first Norfolk Area Relay for Life event was started with the help of one of the founders of our company, Connie Day, as well as for the very simple reason that we have so many very dedicated employees who support this great cause. The Day Companies not only has a Relay team every year, but is also a Corporate Sponsor for the Event.

This year our Relay team raised a total of $6,786.75! We were able to raise such an outstanding amount of money because of every team member’s individual fundraising efforts, as well as from all of the various team fundraisers throughout the year. This past year we sold Valentine’s Day balloon bouquets, Mother’s Day plants, candles, and wax-dipped animals; as well as holding many Relay Lunches in the office throughout the year. We are so fortunate to have all of the help and support that we do from not only the company, but also from all of the employees to make everything a success!

In addition, we have 4 team members who are also on the Planning Committee who put in a lot of time and efforts to make sure the Relay Event is a huge success every year. They are Jo Alexander, Tami Pick, Danelle McKeown, and Jackie Mayer.

This year the Norfolk Area Relay for Life event raised a total of $204,000 for cancer research, which is one of the highest in the Heartland Division and in the entire United States, per capita. We are so proud to play such a large role in the success of an event that raises so much money for a great cause!
