Stretching the Christmas Season into May
Throughout the year, the company takes all of our employees out for various lunch outings. A wide array of activities are planned, as we go out to different restaurants here in Norfolk for lunch and then do some sort of activity or have a company meeting. These usually last for a couple of hours – and is a nice change of pace for all of our employees to get out of the office for a while, get to know all of their co-workers, and have some fun as well.
Last Wednesday the entire staff here at the office decided to celebrate Christmas a little later than normal. Supplied with a brown paper bag and a $10 bill, everyone was given a half hour to shop around town for a Christmas gift to use for our gift exchange. We met at The Sports Denn for lunch with our brown paper bag-wrapped gifts in hand, and started our exchange among the 42 employees participating.
Now, even though we live and work out here in the “sticks” of Nebraska, I would like to clarify that we do realize that Christmas is normally celebrated in December. With so many things already going on around the holiday season, it has just become our little yearly tradition to have a gift exchange in the spring instead. The most amusing part is that for the most part no one buys too serious of a gift. Gift ideas have included lawn ornaments, a tropical fish toilet seat, candy, lottery tickets, a cotton candy maker, an inflatable palm tree, and plastic flowers – just to name a few. Many laughs were shared among everyone as we managed to spread a little Christmas cheer well into the month of May.
