SDDC Message on Bunker Surcharge, War Risk, and Related Items

Last Friday, SDDC sent out this email… clarifying their position on Bunkers Surcharges, War Risk, Port Congestion Charges, Security Charges, etc. Overall, we believe most TSPs will be very pleased with the content in this message. First of all, any clarification would have been an improvement, as we have had to deal with some bases automatically denying these items, some that were disputing every one and asking for documents, while many bases were approving each one.
The interpretation presented in

CWA Hot Fix for 509A

Recently we notified SDDC that we were still seeing intermittent problems on line items using the 509A (Extra Pickup) item code. If you recall, this was the item that CWA was unable to correctly rate under the I-15, so TSPs were advised to bill that item under the miscellaneous item code. SDDC did implement programming changes that they believed would allow the item to be rated correctly once we got to the I-16. However, we were still seeing instances where…

Use of Asterisks in Notes

US Bank has alerted us to a potential issue that may cause invoices to get “stuck” in CWA and/or PowerTrack. They have determined that in a few cases, an invoice has encountered problems when it contained a PowerTrack note with an asterisk. The asterisk is a field separator for EDI, so when it is used in a note, it can cause the EDI processing program to get confused and think it is signaling the end of a field. In non-technical…

SDDC Audit Exception Procedures Email

Earlier today, SDDC sent an email to all CWA users, including PPSOs, outlining their new Audit Exception (AE) procedures. (If you did not receive the email, you can see a copy here.)
Many of the procedures are the same ones… we implemented recently after receiving permission from SDDC. Our intent was simply to find a new way to clear out the huge backlog of invoices in AE, and get as much of our customers’ money paid as possible. To

US Bank Conference Recap

Last week, Paula Alder, Sue Fuchtman, and I attended the US Bank PowerTrack Conference. They had a dedicated Household Goods track, so that the information presented in the sessions was relevant to our industry. The first session was the briefing by SDDC on Families First, which the covered a lot of the basics, but also presented some new interesting information…. Then there was a specific PPSO session (although TSPs were allowed to attend and observe). During the PPSO session,

Upcoming CWA Releases

SDDC personnel announced last week at the US Bank PowerTrack Conference that they have 4 more releases plannned for the CWA system. The next release, which will be version 3.7.3, is currently in IV&V testing, which is tha last step before release. They didn’t give many details as to what is contained in the 3.7.3 release, except that they are implementing a system that would make it easier for TSPs and PPSOs to tell which CWA notes are new and…

Updated Phase I Metrics

SDDC related some new Phase I metrics during their briefing at the US Bank PowerTrack Conference. While they regularly have posted new metrics, the interesting thing about this update is that they gave average payment times with and without factoring in time that invoices have spent in Audit Exception. Recently, we learned that some of the payment times numbers that have been given to TSPs excluded any time the invoice spent in Audit Exception status in PowerTrack. The could keep…

TSP Teleconference Update

At the US Bank PowerTrack Conference, SDDC personnel announced that the reason for the cancellation of recent TSP Teleconferences… is due to funding issues. Apparently, by late November of last year, they had used up all the funding allocated for the calls, and to this point have been unable to obtain additional funding. They did state that they are still attempting to find some money to continue the calls, or at least find an alternative method of continuing them that
